Keep in mind the board is only 8 people, so in order to keep the organization growing and achieving any milestones we will need all the help we can get. Look for more info to come soon.

In the mean time, keep thinking!

That will be tough with only 8 members. Perhaps the formation of committees, such as Membership, Expo, Sanctioning, Public Relations, etc. with Board Members as the chairs, but other non-board members serving to help out. Sounds like structure is one of the first things that needs to be worked out, along with short term and long term goals, committee assignments, etc.

I currently serve on the Board of Directors for my pofessional society, and I'd be happy to help in any way I can. (did I just hear mutha say "SUCKER!!!" ?) Laughing

That's it!! I quit!!! hahaha. I agree with you Tom. I've had this vision of expanding the website to have some good information (how to's, places to get cookbooks, references, etc., lists of BBQ events in the area (not just competitions, etc.). I've sort of taken the base website and set it up, and take requests/feedback from the board. Sincei t's their website, I like to get their blessing before adding things to it. Not talking about contest results and minor edits, etc. I've also looked into a members only area where you have to log in to get information (copies of newsletters, coupons, etc.). Having trouble learning that one, but hopefully soon.

As far as the forum goes, Dan and I (as well as others) have had conversations about how it is available for anyone. I think it's best left that way. I want a place where anyone can be free to chat/post without having to be a member. PLUS, the more people that come on, the more exposure and hopefully the more than sign up to be in MABA.

Dan M. - You mentioned about a judges only area. We do have the ability (I believe) to allow entry into certain forums categories on this forum. I would be willing to set that up and allow access to those users that are CBJs.

I am ALWAYS open for suggestions on the website!!!

I like the idea of committees. Lets utilize the resources we have in place. There are folks out here that would be willing to serve on such committees and it deligates some of the burden/work from the board in those area's.

I like the dinner idea, could even do it as a members only contest, were you get to try everyones stuff. I know Tom does the competitors breakfast at some comps which I belive is open to all. Someone on another thread said about banners, cool idea as long as the revenue helps the whole organization. The expo could be helped if people (like myself) would pitch in and help, rather then just going and looking for bargins (like I did). I sent my dues in for this year and will continue to do so. I think the board works really hard and does what it can as does it well. Just thoughts and maybe an idea or so.

thanks to all involved!

Sorry if that came out harsh Butthead. I wanted to get everyones take on these topics before I voiced my own thats all.

You can't get to your destination without knowing where you are going in the first place. Thats why I wanted everyones input so I can help MABA set up some goals.

Committees are the way to go, I agree. We have the same problem with our HOA. Only 5 board members to 300 homes, so taking care of approvals, violations of covenants, newsletters, welcome packets, groundskeeping, accounting, etc. Been trying to get committees going, but having a hard time getting people to volunteer, cause they generally don't care.

Now with MABA, there are alot more people that are interested... And they sign up cause they want to, not cause they have to. So, I would venture a guess that you would be able to get 2 or 3 people each on 4 or 5 comittees to start. Perhaps the committees should be:

Sanctioning/Competitions (getting comps sanctioned, tracking comps/results, TOY, etc.)

Membership (tracking memberships, getting out welcome packs, finding new members, etc.)

Convention/Banquet (whichever is determined to be the best - I vote banquet for next year until the membership #s grow and there is more of a financial backing)

Media (website, newsletters, mailing, advertising, meetings, etc.)

and maybe one or more as necessary (sure I missed something)

This is great! Thanks to everyone that has taken the time to think about how you would like to see MABA grow and evolve. I am currently working on a brainstorming summary document as a basis for discussion for the upcoming planning meeting. All of your comments and suggestions will be considered.

I think the One, Three and Five Year Plan makes a lot of sense. When doing this type of planning, there are no bad ideas. We want to hear ALL of your thoughts. Keep the suggestions coming.

I think I would also Like to see the Flags as mentioned earlier, And the agreement that anyone flying a Mabba flag knows that......

1 Anyone and everyone is welcomed in your camp.
2 Any Mabba member knows they can come into your camp and get a soft drink or adult beverage and feel welcomed in that camp.
3 you can go to any Mabba camp and get help or knowledge from that camp.
4 We hopefully flood every event in the area with these dang flags that everyone says " who the heck are these people" ( sorry George not trying to steal your name. Very Happy )
5 we willing and truethfully share our pasion and art with all newbies at an event.

And anything else someone can come up with.

Yep, the flags will help. Getting the MABBQA name out there is a start. Folks who see that flag who arnt members will ask about it. Dang good idea for whoever came up with it. I'd like to second Mutha's post.

The flags are a great idea. What a great form of advertisement for the organization. It is also a good way for us to be able to see each other. Can't wait to get one.

I think MABA is doing fine for such a young organization. I don't think we should be thinking about being in competition with KCBS which is THE major BBQ organization in the country and probably the world. We can survive right along side them and fill in any voids such as inexpensive classes & sponsoring back yard events etc. I do agree that the Expo will never get off the ground unless it is a Sat/Sun event. Families are all busy on Sat. with kids stuff, Sunday would better be the public day or both perhaps...plus lets get it into a population center & charge a nominal admission. Most of all lets do a charity thing to get our name out there!!!!!
How about returning vets, military families, sort of like the Kookers Care thing. God knows we all have some money to share & we are great scroungers & field expedient experts. Meat suppliers donate the meat, we Q it and serve/deliver and blast out the MABA logo & name.

I think that Rich has a great idea with the veterans cook. I would be happy to help out with that.
