As many of you hav already noticed, the forum has various advertisements that pop up (downfall of a free forum). We've been talking about upgrading to another forum at some point. In the meantime, I'd like to get some feedback from everyone which may help drive the decision. Thanks!

If we have to start over, no biggie. I vote for whatever is best for the whole.

Personally I do not care for them. If you are getting money for allowing them let them stay.

Just so folks know, we do not pay for the forum service. It is a free service; however, like most free services on the internet, they then have the right to put up Ads. I am looking into other choices that don't have quite so many, or no ads.... Also, looking into a forum that charges, but doesn't have ads. Before I, or the board, invests too much time or money, I wanted to hear what everyone had to say as this forum it for all to enjoy. I certainly don't want to make a forum that I feel is good, if noone else truely enjoys.

I really enjoy the forum and find it informative, helpful, and fun. My thought is that if we are going to havew adds we should have money going into the organization from them

I hear ya. I guess when it boils down to it, it's the same either way... Either we pay for the forum, then get money for advertisers... Or we don't pay and have advertisers. But, I would venture that we would get more money from advertisers than what it would cost to run, as sort of a minor money maker. AND, we could determine what advertisers we want.. Problem would be to find those advertisers and convince them to give us money!! Smile

If the forum keeps growing as well as the organization I do not see that as a problem. Personally I woulkd wait to see how the growth continues before making changes. May want to see how the other Forums do it

Although I voted for the ads to go away, I do not wish for us to incure an expense. So the free forum is fine.

Guess I should have read down the page first.

Biker chicks? Here? And I missed 'em. Man I LOVE biker chicks! (But they scare me)

I did see the octopus one - that's pretty cool.

Another option is Webjam.com...they are offering a free upgrade to their Premium service until June 15. (About $40 a month thereafter) No ads, and you can have your own easy URL (something like MABBQAforum.com). I have set up several of them and I'd be happy to help on one for the association. You can have a discussion forum there (though not as good as this one), add videos, pictures, podcasts, and a multitude of other Web 2.0 features.

Even if it turns out not to be the best option for the MBBQA, I'd still be happy to help any members set up their own Webjam. Here is a sample site that I created that features a BBQ theme. Please keep in mind that most things in there are just placeholders, and it is not a Premium site yet.

Here is a link to Premium site that I created for a special friend with Lyme Disease. (Please don't ask to join there unless you are interested in the cause..thanks!)

Any questions, please just let me know in a PM or at bigbuddybbq@gmail.com.

Thanks!

I've noticed the ads at first and thought, "what the heck are they doing here?,
but then realised they were part of the free site. I soon learned to skip over them when following a discussion and reading responses.

I say as long as the site is free, and its not costing us money, and the adds have not become intrusive or obnoxious, then, we can love with them for a while.

On the other hand, if there is a serious desire to move to another forum site, then we ought to do it before this one becomes too "matured" with discussions that might want to be kept, which would be lost if we started over.
