|
|
Hey All,
While speaking with the Galvinells at last weeks competition I asked them if they would be willing to host a whole hog competition in the fall. They were very receptive...here are points for disscussion at random:
1. We would need MABA to sanction the event...Mark?
2. We could set up a class for those that never did a whole hog before.
3. Flat entry fee could include the hog which the Gavinell Meat Co. would supply & dist. on site.
4. Galvinell's also has Meadowcreek hog cookers available for anyone who needs one.
5. It could be used a a fund raiser for the 4-H club, (big in that area)
I have cooked in a couple of these type events in the south before and they are great events. After judging, the competitors pull the pig and turn it in to the organizers where it is mixed, sauced, brought up to serving temp and served to the public for a fee, (wristband) required.
6. entry fee's could go to trophies & prize money.
7. A whole hog contest can allow use of gas & wood/charcoal cookers at competitors choice....some teams ofter split off as I & II , pay two entry fees and do two hogs.
Mr. Galvinell said the farm is beautiful in October when the trees turn & Jen has already come up with a few possible dates...Sept. 13th, Oct. 11th, & Oct 25th.
Any interest out there?

You know you can count me in, Rich.
My only conflict is October 11th.
Good ideas! _________________ Dave

That sounds like it could be fun. Have never done this. What is involved. How long do you cook, and would definately need some help/instruction with this. Also where is this place. I am from PA about 1 1/2 hours from MD. _________________ Big George's BBQ

Ya know, Gavinell's has a place to hold a meeting (judge's room); it's a little more central to the region; we could do an little MABA informal event as well since the hogs wouldn't be judged until the afternoon.

You know I am in Rich!
And i would be willing to help anyone also.
That sounds like a great time to do it to. Just make sure it doesn't conflict with Dover. I think they are the 20th or somewhere around there. _________________ The only thing consistant in BBQ is, It's always the judges fault!

Pickin in the Panhandle is the first weekend in Sep.
We haven't sent in for Dover (yet), so depending on the day, we would be interested. _________________ Chris
