Ahhhh, BBQ competitions. Nothing like working my butt off, sleeping in my truck for 3 hours, eating meat for 2 days and drinking too many adult beverages.
Anyone else in BBQ Comp withdrawl? _________________ Dan Hixon

Even more fun!! You have a better idea what's going on, especially when doing a comp for the 2nd time... Gives you more time to enjoy and socialize. This is our 3rd year.. _________________ 3 Eyz BBQ

I really can't wait. We usually pratice something every weekend. Even if it's anything but (or Purdue chicken). Last week I was off my feet and I may have to take things easy this weekend too. Guess I'll tell Christy how to do the ribs. I also have to go through the cabinets to see what I need to order for rubs & stuff. Can't wait until April.

|
|
Hi All,
Our season opener this year is March 7-8-9, "The Prestigeous Palmetto Pig Pickin", in Charleston, (Ladson), South Carolina. This will be our 5th year in this contest where we usually cook with another team, and now our first year on our own as Pig Pen BBQ. The contest this year has added a KCBS div. to go along with The traditional "Low Country" div. which is whole hog, shoulders & ribs as in Memphis in May style comps. The Pig Pickin is about 23 years old and has it's own judges + KCBS & MBA judges. Also unique is the fact that the Low Country part can all be cooked on Gas.
We are lucky to be joined by Tom & Michele of Lo-n-Slo BBQ who will help us so we can compete in both divisions.
This is a great contest as it tipifies BBQ in the South Land......if you want an early start to the season go down for the KCBS or just to have a couple of great days......you won't regret it....stop and see us, we'll be one of the few teams cooking the Hog on wood & Charcoal!

You had an invite to one earlier..... remember.... it is this weekend... I got the official word, that it is going to be an annual event. Hopefully I can get this one going and get some prize money for next year. We ended up with 4 teams. Not too bad for a low key, non-sanctioned, no real advertising, event. _________________ AKA MrGrumpy
