Hello fellow BBQers. My name is Brent I was born and raised in Lynchburg, VA and I live in DC. Been grilling, bbqing and smoking either by proxy or on my own all my life. I've grilled or smoked everything pizza to macaroni and cheese. Some things were great, some things should have remained an idea.
I've recently been afforded the opportunity to develop the concept of my own BBQ place. I've talked about it for years, and been encouraged, but the stars are aligning right now.
We have a location available to us in the bustling U St. area of DC(Quick question, what's the BEST BBQ in DC in your opinion? I have been consistently disappointed) and I need to come with the concept, layout, equipment(I really have no clue here, google is my friend, that's how I found you guys and gals), recipes, etc, etc.
I am comfortable with utilizing the typical backyard/charcoal based cooking, but I'm a tad intimidated by the larger rig that would be required for this type of establishment. I know it'll be essentially the same, but on a larger scale.
I look forward to getting involved in some of the events/competitions you guys have and am really trying to learn.
That said, if anyone is looking for some "free" help in the immediate DC area over the summer, I'd be willing to exchange labor for education.
I feel kinda awkward being all newbie and asking for help on the intro post, but I'm excited. |

Welcome, I've never found really great BBQ in DC. That being said there are a couple of places outside of DC that are really good. Check out O'Brien's pit BBQ in Rockville and Dixie Bones in Woodbridge. _________________ Spicewine Tandem - "The Beast"

Hey Brent welcome to the forum. Good luck on your resturant. DC could use good BBQ joint. I can tell you that the Hawk & Dove has the best burgers in town - at least they did when I worked at the Exxon at 4th & Penn. (About 25 yrs ago!)

Welcome to the forum from a past resident of NOVA and a current resident of Central VA. If you interested in Competiton Q then you should make a trip south in July to Que and Cruz. Its a new contest here in central VA that is a State Championship. There are several teams from here who will be competing in this contest. If your interested, check out our website www.queandcruz.com.
Good luck with the BBQ Joint. By the way, a GC trophy would be a BIG help to a BBQ Joint. _________________ "Life, its what you do between meals."

I have class(still in grad school) on Saturday, but I'd love to come out Friday the 6th. That would be perfect.
What do I need to do to get tied in?
Thanks. |
