I always thought of the KCBS 4 meat comps as like the major leagues, and the backyard contests as the minors. As long as you didn't compete in the big leagues, you could do the "easier" one day comps.
But the powers that be at Yardley have a rule that if you won anything in any BBQ contest (one day comp or 2 day KCBS comp), you are DQ'ed from their one day comp.
I just don't have the manpower to be in a 2 day. And I know I can do just one category, but does it make sense to pay the full price of the 2 day to only do one category and not try for GC?
Hopefully in the future as I get other people on my team (right now it is just me cooking and my father in law watching things if I need a pee break), I will join you in the 2 day. |

What are you cooking on. I did 2 days on a little Chargriller last year. Did not do well but had fun. I did have more people on my team. You can get things like the Digi Q from BBQ Guru that will help to maintain the temp of your grill so you can get some sleep _________________ Big George's BBQ

I did my first one on a Chargriller and a Brinkman which I still use.
We won 1st in chicken - 2nd chiefs choice - 6th in sausage in New Holland.
Don't let the equipment fool you. You just have to work a little harder with the small stuff.
Hey, if you want to compete some place that I'm not going and need a hand, I'll cook with you if I'm available (Berks?)

I use 2 CharGrillers from Home Depot. 1 has a side firebox. I understand how you need to stay on top of them to ensure even temps.
But even more importantly, I wanted to do a couple of 1 day comps with my brothers in law watching and try to entice them to come out with me when I was ready to move up to 2 day comps.
I wanted to do Yardley over Brooklyn's Grilling on the Bay because it is very local for me. My wife's family and our closest friends live within a 20 minute ride from Yardley.
C'est la vie.
Porkmiester, I appreciate the offer. I am still trying to figure out my schedule for future comps. I may take time to get my brothers in law up to speed on bbqing by taking them around the grounds on Saturday in Yardley. |

So get them to do the main Comps with you. There are lots of people at a Comp that would love to help you. Learn as you go _________________ Big George's BBQ

Congrats to all that got a call at Yardly. The weather was brutal. The heat really got to me. Believe I got pretty dehydrated. However we did the best that that we have done so far at a Comp. Had a good time. Hopefully the weather will be kinder next time- Berks _________________ Big George's BBQ

Congrats to all the winners. We got a big as_ kickin. This was the worst we ever scored at any event. I realized after we were cleaning up that I grabbed a bottle of mis-labled Cayenne Pepper instead of my rub. Lets just say that my stuff had a burn to it! I guess it was just one of those week-ends.
We will be ready for Freehold NJ next month. No Pepper alowed on site!
