|
|
Galvinell's is having another contest this year on May 9th & 10th. They have agreed to hold all four KCBS categories and is working with MABA to have MABA sanctioning, which would allow the points from the event to count toward MABA Team of the Year standings.
Galvinell’s is located at 461 Ragan Rd, Conowingo, MD.
Last year Galvinell's hosted a Pro-Am style contest of 10 teams, half of which were total amateurs (and an amateur team won!). They gave all meat samples for the contest to the contestants as part of their entry fee last year. Due to the entry of local, amateur teams, they did not want any ringers competing.
This year they are looking to have more teams. More details will be announced soon.
This coincides with their annual open house and they are planning on having bands and other forms of entertainment on Saturday. Galvinell’s is one of the few local meat processing houses which is totally USDA federally certified.
More details will be announced soon.

I was at their shop yesterday verifying with them aspects of the event.
Galvinell's will be looking for a few judges, but MABA has the responsibility of providing judges and other helpers.
MABA will be overseeing the contest setup, judging, and awards presentration.
We will be posting contest info on this website as well as in our next newsletter.

Mutha Chicken BBQ will be there. We were there last year and it was a great event. We had a great time, nice weather and alot of cool teams there.
Jen is a great person to talk to. You can Order your meat from them and Pick it up when you arrive.
Hope to see you guy's out there. _________________ The only thing consistant in BBQ is, It's always the judges fault!

Ron,
Water was not in each site but was available. It was a whopping 15ft from our site( Dumb Luck on our half)
We were prepared, Chris brought some laterns. And we were hanging with the Senator. _________________ The only thing consistant in BBQ is, It's always the judges fault!

What was the prize money like last year? I received an application and it's not noted how much it is. _________________ Ron

| I just talked to Jennifer, she is sending a application. I live just down the hill, in Perryville. This will be real fun, the weather "should" be good. |

Well we will see you out there Chris.
Ron,
Since I didn't get GC, Or Reserve I really have no idea what the top payouts were. But I hope that will change this year!
But we did get a first in brisket and it was 100 bucks.
I think they paid the top 3 in each category
They used all the entrance fees for the prize money. They don't make a dime off of this. Come on down. It'll be good practice and fun to do with out the pressure and higher fees. _________________ The only thing consistant in BBQ is, It's always the judges fault!

Best part is the short drive to a hot shower and my evolving kegerator. Its not about the money to us, just hanging out, cooking up some good food and enjoy good company! _________________ Chris

The latest as of this evening:
- After talking with Tommy last night, it was agreed upon. This is now an official MABA sanctioned contest. Top five overall finishes earn points towards MABA Team of the Year standings.
- Don't expect any large payout at this contest. It's not Bel Air, Salisbury, or New Holland. They're doing this contest for the enjoyment of BBQ. All the entry fee's are going toward prize money. There are no sponsors donating a large purse for advertisement. Also, because they are adding a fourth category this year, the payouts for awards may not be the same as it was last year. They will have awards for the top three in each categories and RGC & GC. _________________ TS250

Ron, with all that On-Star gizzmo's and even MapQuest, you can't determine the best way for you to travel 40 miles?
Seriously, for you either:
- Take 896 N to 95 S
- 95 S until the last exit before the tolls
- go a ways and look for 222N
- Take 222 N up to the dam (rt 1) and follow N of rt 1. Ragan Rd intersects with 222
or 896 N into Newark, Turn L onto 273, which will eventually merge with Rt 1 S. Ragan Rd is N of Rt 1, between the Octorora creek and Susquehanna River. _________________ TS250
