OK

So we have a new scorecard system. Not really but there are now words associated with the corresponing number.

9. Excellent
8. Very Good
7. Above Average
6. Average
5. Below average
4. Poor
3. Bad
2. Inedible
1. Disqualification

What do you associate to the number/word.

I believe that the new system will make KCBS comparative. Seeing the word will automatically make you think of food already eaten and thus creating a different type of judging than we are told to be.

In the judging class we are told to " Judge each piece on it's own merits." yet we will naturally associate the word to something.

So what or how do you get around this.

Just courious what your thoughts are.

Not sure what to make of this, or how to address it. By having the words associated kinda takes your personal opinion away doesn't it? I was lead to believe that I should judge the meat based on what I considered the best piece of BBQ on that particular day.

Confusing statement. You have to compare. To rate some "average" means you compare it to ALL past tastings you experienced, including the 3 or 4 pieces minutes before. Rolling Eyes
